Since filming started in late September, the "Fragile Waters" team has racked up a lot of miles - on land and at sea. The map below shows a lot of our filming points, which encompasses a range of more 14,000 square miles.
The funny thing is; our biggest trips are yet to come! Cheers, - Rick This map (Wikipedia Commons) shows the locations of existing dams on Columbia Basin waterways. It illustrates just how many obstacles Chinook salmon face in reaching their historic spawning grounds.
Being an all-volunteer film crew - and being produced by a registered non-profit animal conservation/education organization - funding "Fragile Waters" has always fallen on the kindness of our supporters.
I'm truly thrilled, and greatly humbled, by the more than 45 people who have donated to our film. OUR film. It is that, and so much more than people know. We couldn't do this with out the emotional, logistical and financial support we receive from amazing folks, across the globe. "Thank you" doesn't begin to cover it. We have about seven more months of filming to get through. A lot of it will involve travel and remote locations. But we're after extraordinary footage and to get it, we're going to be working very hard. We almost have enough to do it, too. We've raised more than $3,500 in the past 3 and a half months. We still need (for the most essential interviews, wild footage and logistics) an additional $2,000. The best way - the way I hope to see this happen - is if we had 200 people donate $10 each. That's what it takes, really. Don't get me wrong, the 45 people who have already donated have given and average of $65 per person. Our largest single donor gave $750. It's absolutely humbling. If you can help us spread the word it will help us reach OUR goal. The fundraiser wraps up in about 6 weeks. Thank you all so very, very much. OUR film is going to be amazing! Cheers, - Rick Wood "Fragile Waters" gained another bit of exposure with an interview now posted on Orca Aware's website. Orca Aware is based in the UK and we're thrilled (and grateful to Sam Lipman) to have a chance to reach a wider international audience. After all, killer whales are found in all corners of the globe, making the species a truly universal one.
The interview can be found here: http://www.orcaaware.org/rick-woods-fragile-waters.html Like a whisper of a veil, caught in the tree branches, a blanket of fog lifts from Birch Bay, on the Salish Sea. I'd almost talked myself out of jogging down to the water and setting-up for this shot. In the hour that I filmed, you could tell there would be "drama" inherent to the time lapse. I'm glad I did it. :) - RW |
